The cooling towers are huge devices or mechanism that is constructed by cooling tower manufacturers with installation of major components.   • Fills

Fills of the cooling tower are the main heat transfer components that transfer heat from hot water to cold air. You can avail two kinds of fills, i.e. Splash fills and Film fills. Splash fills are able to disintegrate the hot water from vertical direction and then split the water to pass through next level of splash bars. Film fills create think vertical water film to let the air come in to assist heat transfer. Fills used in cooling tower are usually designed and intended with PVC, wood, or polypropylene.

  • Drift eliminators

Drift eliminators are designed to reduce the drift loss happens in cooling tower. These drift eliminators components are usually placed next to fills in the air flow path, which helps in reducing the drift loss. Drift loss is the entrained water loss through hot air to atmosphere. Drift eliminators are usually fabricated with PVC materials.

  • Cold water basin

This component is made of Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC). Cold water basin serves two purposes, i.e. it collects the cold water from tower and acts as storage, and it acts as a foundation for the coling tower structure.

  • Cooling tower structure

The structure of the cooling tower is generally made with chemically treated wood, while RCC and FRP cooling towers are customized by manufacturing units.

  • Nozzles

Nozzles are made with plastics. Many nozzles are made of PVC, polypropylene, and glass filled nylon. Nozzles offer uniform distribution of hot water within a cell of a cooling tower.

  • Fan motor

Explosion resistant motors are installed in petrochemical and refinery cooling tower applications. Manufacturers intend the motor with protection systems like Earth fault relay and over load relay, etc.

  • Louvers

Louvres function is required for cross flow cooling tower but it's not required for counter flow cooling tower. Louvres are made up of asbestos sheets and use for circulating water withing the cooling tower and equalise the flow of air into the fill.

  • Cooling Tower Fans

This is the main part of cooling tower components. commonly used fan blade materiel are Aluminium, Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP), Glass fibre and hot-dipped galvanised steel. Fans are divide in two types propeller and centrifugal types. Propeller type of fans is used in induced draft cooling towers, while both propeller and centrifugal fans are generally used for forced draft towers.
